Mermaid Shadow Box Card

Kindred Stamps has a challenge going on in their fan club group on Facebook for the month of January, the Pantone color of the year challenge. The color happens to be Ultra Violet. I wanted to make something different. I have been using the same dies over and over and I didn't want to do something that I felt I've over done. So for this challenge, I made my own simple pop up card base. It is super simple to make and Im really excited about it because I can see myself doing lots of different things with this one!

first I started with two 5 1/2 x 5 1/2pieces of heavy card stock. I scored each at 4 1/4 in and then again at 1/8 in, so that they look like this the picture below. Next, I cut a window out of one of the pieces leaving a 1 in border all the way around.

I used two Kindred Stamp sets for this project. "Good To Be Bad" and "Mermaid"

I colored all of my images with Prismacolor pencils and colored the background paper inside the box with Ranger Distress Oxides. I added Stickles to the background. At the bottom of the background I added some black "grass" by using a Martha Stewart grass border punch as a stencil. To attach the mermaid I used Artist Impression "Action Wobbles", so that she moves when you shake the card. If you notice in the set there is only one eel, I wanted two but I wanted them to be facing different directions so I stamped one and drew the other. (you can also achieve this using a mirror stamp technique).

To assemble the card I glued an acetate sheet to the front of the card and stamped a shell from the mermaid set using versamark. I added the the characters and the shell (I drew that also). I folded the card at the score marks I made and added glue to the smallest 1/8 section, then put the two together.

I hope you like the template I made and If you do make something using this template I would love if you would hop on over and share it on my Facebook page!

I will add the affiliate links to the supplies I used below. If you like this and want to see more, subscribe to my blog below! Aloha!
