Gingerbread Play Dough and Activities
Christmas is near! Today we did some really fun gingerbread activities. We started our morning with the book "Gingerbread Baby"
We also sang :
"One little, Two little, Three little gingerbreads
Four little, five little, six little gingerbreads
seven little, eight little, nine little gingerbreads
Ten little gingerbread boys and girls"
We love play dough and we like making different recipes to go with our different lessons and seasons. Today we did a fun gingerbread play dough recipe!
This is the recipe card I send home with our kids along with a small bag of dough:
Ingredients:
2 c all purpose flour
1 c salt
1 Tbsp cinnamon
1 Tbsp ground ginger
1 tbsp vegetable oil
1 c water
Mix together and knead. Add a little flour if the dough is sticky.
This stuff smells good but does not taste that great. But if your littles try and taste it at least you know its safe to eat! There are lots of different activities you can do with play dough. We do a game where the kids copy me Kind of like "Simon Says". We start out with each child having some dough and rolling them into balls. Then they smash on the table and we pat them flat "pat, pat, pat". Then we use our pointer finger and poke the dough"poke, poe, poke". after that we roll the dough out on the table like snakes "roll, rol, roll".Then we pinch pieces off "pinch, pinch, pinch" This is great because it gets the kids to follow directions and we do lots of fine motor exercises Like pinching and rolling and poking.
Another fun activity the kids enjoy is the printable play dough mats. I made a gingerbread themed play mat printable (you can find the PDF below). All you need to do is laminate them! You can use these with or without rollers and cookie cutters Buttons are another big hit with the kids. I use large buttons that are easy for their little fingers. I will add links to some of the great play dough tools we use below.
I hope you enjoy this fun recipe and activities! For more fun ideas subscribe to my blog below!
