Apple Week Theme!
This week we did our Apple Theme! We had so many activities and fun things to do this week, we almost didn't get to do all of them!
(I have attached some affiliate links to some of the supplies we use!)
10 APPLES UP ON TOP CRAFT
In the beginning of the week we read "Ten Apples Up On Top" By Dr Seuss. I take the kids pictures with their hands above their head like they are holding something. Now that I think about it I should have actually had them hold a ball on their head or something. I print the pictures on card stock and cut them out. (Im make the pictures about 2 inches tall) We glue the kids pictures to the bottom of the "How many apples" printable i created. The kids use red circles and glue to see how many apples they can stack on their heads. I use a 3/4 inch punch to make the circles and draw a green stem and leaf on the top apple using a fine green marker. Together we count how many apples each child stacked on their heads and write it at the bottom. Theses always come out so cute! I decided to make one too this time. Just for fun! ;)
APPLE PAINTINGS
For our next apple project we painted our apples by stamping cut apples on our paper using red Crayola finger paint and added green leaves to the apples. I cut the apples about 3/4 inch thick so that we can get a few slices out of each apple. This process is a bit messy so I wasn't able to get any pics of the kids actually doing it.
APPLE BOOKS
I created the template for this book. When we did our apple painting the day before we also stamped clean images of the apples and put them on the side to use for the books. After putting the books together ( I did it for this group because they are all on the younger side) the kids attached the apple painting and colored their books. I like the way these books came out because they are simple and only have a few facts about apples, I didn't want it to be too overwhelming. Instructions for putting the books together are included in the Printable PDF.
APPLE SUN CATCHERS
I didn't have any contact paper or self adhesive laminating sheets on hand so I ended up using packing tape to make the clear center of the apples. The kids used pieces of tissue paper to fill in the space. I added a layer of tape on top of the tissue paper to secure it. I cut out 2 apple outlines using the template I created. One side of their apple has a green frame and the other side has a red frame. You could punch a hole at the top and add a string to hang it up , but I just taped it to the window.
APPLE PICKING GAME
This game was super easy to make! I just cut a large tree out of construction paper and I placed red pompoms on top. we rolled a large dice with numbers and the children took turns picking the amount of apples that they rolled on the dice. We went around until all of the apples were picked! This is a great way to practice turn-taking, number recognition and counting objects.
APPLE CROISSANT SNACK COOKING ACTIVITY
To end our week with a bang we did a cooking activity! these are always a hit! I don't actually have a recipe for these so we kinda just winged it. Regardless, they came out great and they were super simple!
